Samsung’s Music app may only be a month old but recent updates indicate that Samsung may be planning something big with the app.
The Samsung Music app is a response to other popular music streaming apps like Apple Music, Google Play Music and others.
At the moment, the app is somewhere between a beta stage and a full-fledged version. Launch last month on the Google Play Store, it is presently intended for developers and enthusiasts to try it out, get used to it and suggest changes which can make it even better. Built specifically for Samsung’s Galaxy phones, the app is getting constantly updated and apart from getting rid of bugs, it is also filling up with new features functionalities.
Here are three reasons why, if you own a Samsung device, the Samsung Music app should be your next big download.
Marshmallow support
The Samsung Music app can only be used by Samsung device owners whose handsets are updated with the latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system. Until recently, the app could only be used by owners of Samsung’s Galaxy S5, Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge, Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy S6 Edge+ and the latest Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge handsets. However, an update introduced to the app a couple of days ago has now made the app compatible with 2016 versions of Galaxy J3, Galaxy J5 and Galaxy J7 handsets.
As Samsung continues upgrading its existing smartphones with the latest operating system, it is possible that a large number of existing Galaxy device users will be able to access the Music app in the coming days.
The Edge factor
The latest update to the Samsung Music app has introduced a new feature which should be music to the ears of owners of Samsung’s Galaxy S6 Edge, S6 Edge+ and S7 Edge handsets. The new feature, named ‘Edge music controller’ will let such owners manage and play tracks directly from the ‘Edge’ panels in their devices. This also means that unlike other users, such users won’t have to open the app every time they feel like listening to songs or to change the tracks.
Lovely interface
Even though the app isn’t a full fledged one as yet, it features a friendly interface which doesn’t look too cramped for space. You can access your favourite tracks through categories like Artist, Composer, Genre, Album and Folder. The app also maintains a list of your favourite tracks based on your preferences and the tracks that you have listened to in the past.
Overall, Samsung hasn’t really marketed the app as much as Apple did for its Music app. Our guess is that Samsung is planning to feed a lot of features and functionalities in the new app before showing it to the world as a competitor to existing popular music streaming apps. Given that the app is compatible with the latest Android operating system, it could be possible for Samsung to make the app compatible with non-Samsung phones as well, but we have not heard any word from Samsung in this regard so far.
